Potential Storyline

This is my first idea for my film trailer the film will be called The shadow. The storyline will be about a young teenager who's family have gone on a holiday and he is left to look after the house which was previously owned by his grandparents who moved out and gave the house to the parents to live in. Everything is fine for the first few days but some things are happening which are leaving the boy wondeing what is happening. He speaks to his grandad who says on October 31st (Halloween) the house seems to gain a new guest and this was happening while he lived their two and that the few days leading up to Halloween the guest will try and get your attention by doing small things. The boy thought his grandad was joking and telling a old story as he does, this was wrong.

Noticing that strange things are happening leading up to this day the boy buys a camera and starts filming on the day incase what his Grandad said was true, his family wont believe what he captures on film.

Review of ring trailer

Ring trailer
  • Mise en scene links in with genre of music (city, Skate Park, Location)
  • Relevant editing techniques used
  • Lighting is good throughout
  • Range of angles
  • Close ups and mid shots on the singer throughout
  • Mise en scene (clothing and location fit the genre and feel of the genre)
  • Self-filming
  • High angles looking down on the boy walking up the stairs
  • Mise en scene
  • Slow editing
  • Who is the target audience
  • Characters
  • Genre

Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey (1975) Argues that the dominant point of view is masculine. The female body is displayed for the male gaze in order to provide erotice pleasure for the male (vouyerism). Women are therefore objectified by the camera lens and whatever gender the spectator/audience is positioned to accept the masculine point of view.

This is the case in most action movies as such as fast and furious 6 where they use the girls in bikinis to attract male customers this film is about cars which are combinations of male view as females are not seen to be obsessive over nice cars. This agrees with what Laura Mulvey is saying

Mrs D

You have started to complete some key research tasks. However, most are very brief. Have a look at some other examples of your peer blogs to help. Please ask if you are unsure on how to apply theory to RMAs.

Film Industry 2013

This would worry some people in the film industry at first glance as it is clear that the 2013 bar isnt as high as most of the previous base going back to 1995. In face the amount of tickets sold is only higher than 1995-1996 and 2011 which means the other 10 years sold higher tickets than 2013. However if you look at the revenue figure accross the years you can see that the revenue has increased from $5.29bn to $11.06bn, this would show a more promising figure for the film industry as in 2012 they sold the same amount of tickets as 2013 but there was a $0.23bn increase in revenue.

Institutions need to make audiences aware of the new film they release and it is vital they do so to gain maximum publicity and people at their films because if people dont buy tickets the film wont make profit. They advertise in a variety of ways posters, magazines even radio but none is more important than trailers. With posters magazines and radio you get to see the stars and hear some funny lines but with a trailer you get to see moving image and this is very important for the advertising films. Trailers allow the audience to not only see who is in the film but to see the star in a few scenes of the film and for most people they wont go watch a film based on the title or the stars they want to see what this film is like which is why trailers are so important.

Grown Ups 2 Trailer

This trailer starts by showing the creators of the film so in this case it is Columbia and Happy Madison it then goes on to set the scene with narrative writing "A few years ago" followed by more Narrative writing which continues to set the scene. It then shows cut scenes of the previous film which will instantly show the audience that it is a film sequel. The next narrative writing says "This summer" which alerts the audience that it is now talking about the current film. This is followed by cut scenes of the film, by showing parts of the film they are hoping that this will attract the audience and make them want to see this film.

Function of a trailer

  • Important part of a films marketing campaign
  • Advertises the film
  • Informs the target audience about the film
  • Encourages the audience to see the movie
  • To show the cast and director

Reflection of AS

Trailer

Strong points :
  • The timing of the clips and sound
  • Piecing togethrer of clips
  • Good scenary which may not be exact but similar to the film
Weak points :
  • There is quite a bit of black screen due to not all of the clips needed
  • Lack of creativity in creating pieces of the clip we needed
What i have learnt :
  • Get the bulk of the filming done as soon as possible so you can start editing which will take a long time
  • Organise people to be involved in filming - reliable people
